"The Love of this World - Time" (1 John 2:15-17)

Terry Sharbaugh, January 30, 2011
Part of the The Light of the World series, preached at a Sunday service

There are things you shouldn’t love; Jesus once said that you can sum up the whole Bible in the words “love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength; and your neighbor as yourself”. Loving God and loving your neighbor are obviously great things. But is there a kind of love that isn’t good? What happens when our love for other things (or people) get in the way of our greatest love?

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
