Question: How Do You Get Your News?

May 11th, 2010 by Chris

While on vacation, Kelly and I joked about the fact that we could watch the news on TV if we wanted to (we don’t have television now, and even when we did, somehow, watching the news with the kids around didn’t seem like a fun idea).  So that got me thinking:  how do people get their news nowadays?  Reading the paper?  Watching it on TV?  Online? Or do people even care about the news anymore?

Me?  I read it online, usually on my phone.  How about you?

Mostly, NPR. The real NPR, on the radio. (Which includes the BBC overnight.)

Other than that, online. For that, I’ll generally use NPR, BBC, Fox, CNN, and whatever newspapers I’m in the mood to peruse.

Not having any channels at home, we never watch TV news and at this time don’t subscribe to any newspapers.

Usually get news from the radio or my iPhone or walking into random establishments with a TV on. Sometimes, they just wish I’d buy something or take a seat… But the bomb scare in Portsmouth Last week had me glued to the TV in Aroma Joes…

Status updates on facebook, and the occasional headline on my yahoo mail page. If something catches my eye, I’ll search for it online…

Internet news sites. I’ve made a habit of scanning the homepages of the local and national news daily. I think its important to know what’s going on around us. It gets discouraging quickly though so I try not to linger on either page too long.

Definitely online - usually something on Drudge will catch my eye and I’ll follow that trail over a bunch of sites until my curiosity is satisfied. Also BBC, a couple of the UK papers online and The National online from the UAE. It’s interesting to compare the world media perspective of US happenings to that of the US media - many times they are very different.

I don’t seek out the news, so I pick it up in passing… news snippets on christian radio, conversations with coworkers or friends.

This blog for example… there was a bomb scare in Portsmouth last week?

I usually get the news from TV, websites and the radio. I think it is important for believers to be constantly aware of what is going on in the world and in our communities.

I recently discovered that 1 out of 10 accounts on twitter that I follow are news. I get most of it from there, via headlines. Most of my tech news comes from RSS feeds via Google Reader. Those would be my two primary news sources, I suppose.
