My God Is For Me
January 15th, 2010In light of God’s perfect and proactive plan to grant forgiveness, righteousness and eternal life to the unworthy (including the “chief of all sinners”), it’s time to celebrate and say, as the Apostle Paul did to his Roman readers, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? For I am sure that neither death nor life… Nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:31,38-39 ESV).
Selah,
Chris
(Oh, here’s my meditation on this. Lord willing, we’ll be singing this in 2 weeks -the choir sounds great on it!)
My God is for me, He’s not against me
And if God is with me what shall I fear?
He who died for me - Emmanuel to me -
Lives today in me, drawing me near
CHORUS
Nothing can separate me from the Father’s love
I am secure in Him whatever may come
He who was crucified and was raised back to life
Always stands by my side in power and love
My God has loved me, gave himself for me
Set His seal on me, washed in His blood
No great Accuser of things behind me
Can stand in the presence of my saving God
CHORUS
BRIDGE
I belong to Him
He’s my God and Friend
To the very end ever near me
I am not my own
I am not alone
He has told me He’s never leaving

Chris,
Thanks for this song. The lyrics “I am not my own, I am not alone, He has told me he’s never leaving” has been going through my head since yesterday morning. It is a great reminder. Thank you.

This song touched me in a powerful way. You have been given a wonderful gift, and I’m so glad DEC gets to share it. When do we make DEC worship team CD’s??

thanks so much for sharing this last week with us. the phrase “i am not my own, i am not alone” has been going through my head since. usually i stop with “i am not my own” and end up struggling to be better, to be more christian, to be less “my own”, and i always end up discouraged and wiped out by how powerful sin is in my life. but when i remembered that yes, my life isn’t my own… but also, that christ is going to walk with me through this process of giving up myself, and that i never need to just plunge away eradicating sin on my own… that this process of santification is empowered by christ, and he will never leave me to do it on my own…
thanks for combining those concepts together. sometimes it’s not learning new facts that’s important, but putting old facts together in new ways. thanks.

I’m really glad this song seems to have touched so many people, and I’m so grateful for your comments G, DL, Rusty, Pat and Laura - and everyone else who has spoken or written to me. Thank you! It’s very encouraging.
All I know is that God used it to minister to *me* and I keep going back to it personally when those truths seem a little dim or hard to believe. What an amazing God our Father is!
Oh, and for more on a CD, Rusty (or anyone) - see my next post, “The Recording Project Begins.”

Hey, Chris,
I was so touched by the song, that I immediately thought of asking to use it for the theme song of the New England Global Issues Internship (the IVCF student mission to Uganda in June). Would that be okay? i have been meaning to email you about it, and will today, in case you dont see this. thanks, for being a blessing, and leading us so humbly and passionately!
