Question: What Are Your Reading Recommendations?
Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
I need to read more. Reading sharpens the mind, broadens the perspective and strengthens the reader. Now, I’m usually reading something, but lately I’ve let life grab me by the throat and toss my schedule around like a limp dishrag. But I need to make a comeback.
So I’m thinking of starting with John Piper’s Life As A Vapor, but I’m not sure. So tell me if you have any must-reads on your reading list.

Michael Jackson, Billy Mays Die Unexpectedly (?)
Monday, June 29th, 2009
Is it an exaggeration to say that, for at least a few hours, the world was rocked by the news of Jacko’s passing? And then yestereday Billy Mays (of OxiClean fame) suddenly passed away. We all expected to hear news about Farrah soon. But not Michael. Not Billy. Nobody saw that coming.
Well, not nobody.
“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:16)
If the hand of God is sovereign (and it is) and the mind of God is all-knowing (yup), then He is not surprised by the events of the last few days. In Psalm 31:15, the psalmist said, “Our times are in your hands,” and these recent deaths serve to remind us that this is ultimately true. God alone holds our lives - every minute of the day - in His hands.
Any reflections on Michael’s life or work? Or (if you’re into OxiClean) Billy Mays’?

Father’s Day Invitation
Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
Hey friends,
Father’s Day is coming, and I have a special invitation for you!
Did you know that (according to Wikipedia) the first Father’s Day is thought to have been celebrated in 1908 in a church in West Virginia? Pretty appropriate considering that if anyone has a father to celebrate, it’s the Church. And if anyone could bring a restored sense of fatherhood to the wounded, forsaken & fatherless, it would be the Church.
So here’s the Father’s Day invitation: Flood this blog with words of thanks, expressions of love and shameless bragging on
- your dad
- the father-figure in your life
- your heavenly Father God
- Dads, do the same for your kids right here!
But do it before June 21, ‘cuz that’s Father’s Day!
Go for it!
